Skating:

These days, you simply go to the skating center, put wheels on your feet and you're ready for fun. The earliest skates were made of bone and were found in Sweden in 9th century. Later Wooden skates with iron facings were invented in the 14th century. The skates were attached to the skater's shoes with leather straps. In 17th century skates which were entirely made of iron were introduced. In 1848, E. V. Bushnell of Philadelphia, PA invented the first all steel clamp for skates. By the 18th century skating was well-established sport as a sport.

Skating basics:

figure skating»Always bend both knees before pushing and always push from a bent knee to a bent knee. Your skating knee should always be active with a constant rise and fall movement.

»Your hips and shoulders should always be offset to your skates, so that you hip that is innermost to your circle is in the lead.

»pairs skating and dancingWhen skating backwards you should try to face inside of the circle so that the hip that is innermost to the circle is in the lead. When you skate backwards your body weight should also travel backwards in the direction that you wish to move.

»Your free leg should always be straight and either turned out with your toe pointed and slightly down, or turned inwards but still straight. Try to always keep you feet parallel to the ice, never kick your heels or toes up.
