Fishing:
Fishing means catching and hunting fishes. Earlier fishing was done for survival and not as a sport. earlier people used nets for fishing. Nets were made by spinning grasses, or spinning wool, or flax. Fishing is also called angling. Fishing was also done using fish hooks. A hook was one of the first tools made. The methods and tackle used for fishing evolved slowly through the centuries. Today, fishing is treated as a sport.
Fishing Methods:
Now fishing is one of man's principal relaxations and is, in many countries, the most popular participant sport. Fishing continues to be a favorite pastime in the United States. Freshwater fishing was the most popular type of fishing. The four basic methods of fishing are:
» Bait fishing
» Fly fishing
» Bait casting or Spinning
» and Trolling
All are used in both freshwater and saltwater fishing. Bait fishing is commonly called still fishing in North America and bottom fishing in England, and it is the oldest and most universally used method. Fly fishing involved originally the use of live flies, and its art was to lay the fly as lightly and obtrusively near a fish as possible. Bait casting and spin casting differ essentially only in the type of reel used and the rod length. Spinning rods are generally 7-10 feet long, while the usual length of a bait casting rod is 5-6 feet.
Fishing in India:
India is considered as the ideal place for fishing as it is a landscape surrounded by numerous rivers.
The country has an estimated 50,000 km of waters- rivers, streams, and lakes included- and an additional 3,000 km of coastline. Fishing in the jungles and angling at the various rivers and lake sides, is not a new sport in India, but at present it is turning out to be an interesting means of relaxation for tourists who visit the wildlife sanctuaries in India. What makes angling or sportfishing easy in India is that most major cities lie along rivers, as a result of which getting to a suitable fishing spot is generally not a problem.
