The exact origins of baseball are unknown. Most historians agree that Americans started playing baseball at early 1800s.By the 1860s, the sport was popularly known as America is national pastime. In the early part of that century small towns formed teams, and baseball clubs were formed in larger cities.

Alexander Cartwright in 1845, first devised the rules for this game. The first recorded baseball contest took place in 1846. The Cincinnati Red Stockings in 1869 became the first salaried and professional team. The Cincinnati team won sixty-five games and lost none.
Baseball's first formal rules: The rules were formed for four bases in a square, about 126 feet on each diagonal. The batter was placed at the fourth base, which was renamed "home." "Soaking" was eliminated; a runner had to be tagged or forced out. The batter was out if his batted ball was caught on the fly or on first bounce. The new rules also established three strikes for an out and three outs in a half-inning. A game lasted until one team scored twenty-one runs, or "aces" as they were then called. Later more amandments were made to this game's rules and diagram was also changed to a new diamond.
New Rules:The rules of the game are simple enough: two teams, nine people each, a 90-foot diamond, four bases, a pitcher and a hitter.The bases must be constructed in such a way that they can be seen distinctly by the umpire and must cover a space equal to one square foot of surface. The base from which the ball is struck is designated as the Home Base, and it must be directly opposite to the second base. The pitcher's position shall be designated by two lines and the pitcher must stand within the lines. The Pitcher must deliver the ball as near as possible over the center of the home base. The pitcher and the fielder try to get the hitter out, the hitter tries to womp the ball out of the park and get back to home base, and the teammates waiting to play shoot a constant stream of tobacco into the dugout while periodically adjusting themselves. A home run means running the entire diamond, touching all four bases, and getting back to the plate again. Whichever side makes the most home runs over nine innings, wins the game.
The Women's International Baseball Association formed in April of 2000. It has organized four international elite women's baseball tournaments called the Women's World Series. The organizers were the American Women's Baseball League and the Women's Baseball Association of Japan. India is a newcomer to the 2004 Women's World Series. They played in their first international competition at the 2004 Women's World Series.
